When we last left off, I was helping a fellow Oprhan Ketucari deal with an abusive older sister. This involved exterminating her after her attempt to murder me, and getting the Orphan who I felt sympathy toward to a hospital in Messus. I was unsure of how life insurance for people among my species worked, but I had surmised that Burku was going to be okay enough that I did not need to bail him out of a horrible situation again. I left Messus because I had promised Burku that, after killing his sister Mara and getting him out of the Shalekesh badlands, he never had to see me again if he did not want to. From what I recall, he expressly made it clear that I creeped him out.

That's one of the main reasons I took a ferry all the way to Lucedar. The second reason was because the apartment complex that the Moreaux and Passionfruit Mining Companies got burnt down by a mysterious douchebag who confused me for a mafia boss. The response from one of their sibling Mining Companies (whose name was unintelligible to me) was to “get back in the saddle” and mine somewhere, with the implication being that travel was a good way to make some sweet, sweet cash. So, naturally, I decided to head to where they suggested and try to get a move on with my life.

There was a specific place in Lucedar that was recommended to me, known as The Singing Vale. True to form, almost everything became a musical episode, and I wondered if I should abandon my dreams of becoming a badass brewmistress on account of already tripping some major balls vis-a-vis coming here. Then, I decided that I would just make this Singing Vale my new homeland, for now. Unlike Shalekesh, it did not reek of copper and trauma.

Well, there was probably copper here but not the kind I smell on my entire body. Having to wash myself after getting Burku to safety took me a long time to do, more than a day from what I can recall. I decided to attempt to find an area with a lake where I could do that, in case I ever ran afoul of battle that caused me to get horribly mauled. Mountains often have those lakes, from what I had been told, and the most famous among them was known as “The Hallowed Tarn.” The Tarn itself was all the way in Aegrus, so whether I wanted to or not, I would have to do more travelling should I want to travel to that famous lake.

Lucedar, by comparison, was less distant.

Additionally, even if I wanted to mine better ores and minerals, I had to start from somewhere and that somewhere screamed “what smells like my own blood, sweat, and tears.” Copper was something I had to get used to, whether or not I actually wanted it. If I gathered enough minerals, I could maybe get started on becoming a cool blacksmith. The other thought I had was becoming a jewelcrafter, seeing as they also made some money and got to create some beauty in the process.

My claws alone were good enough for digging. I at first considered getting a shovel, but realized that I had sharpened my claws well enough to rend the ground as well as rend any errant opposition. I decided, therefore, to use Rend on the ground in order to make it give me things, even if those things happened to be mud or oil. If the environment around me was not constantly singing, I might have been able to go forth and dig a little deeper than I had on my first use of the Rend attack along the ground. After seeing it not work out for the better, I decided to just shovel dirt normally with my paws, given the claws on them were sharp enough just to do that on their own.

Resources seemed as plentiful on Singing Vale as they were on Shalekesh. The fauna was different from it, at least, though the flora and the scent of copper remained effectively the same. Since copper seemed to be something that these lands had in common, I would find it unlikely that I would be able to sell the ores after digging them up from the ground. Not that I intended to sell the ores, though; seeing as I wanted to smelt them to make cool things, I could not do that if I did not first keep the ores for myself. The cool things I could make with copper probably sold for far more than the copper ore itself would, which I found to be amusing and tragique at the same time. This was possibly also true for more rich ores and for even herbs, which made the matter a lot easier to laugh at.

Too bad this was not the Laughing Vale, though.

As soon as I began laughing to myself at the irony of resources themselves costing less than what one could make them into, I found that the Vale stopped singing completely. It was as if someone scratched a disque in order to get the music to stop playing. It was not as if the music resumed. It stayed coldly silent, which made me increasingly confused. In spite of this confusion, I kept digging. I needed to gather Copper Ore, and I was going to be here for a while in order to gather enough of it to begin Armoursmithing.

The only sounds for a while came from my claws chafing the ground beneath me. I decided it was just fine the way it was now, given I would need to craft my own home in these woods. The idea of making an underground bunker I could stash my collection of souvenirs from various places inside of was quite the tempting idea anyway. However, making that dream of an underground bunker come true required me to dig for ores and gather enough Copper that I would be able to travel elsewhere for other Ores.
